HERTFORD — With the band just winding down from the last victory celebration for the Moreland team, the call to strike up once again came as Mark Moreland collected another Top Eliminator win for his team Saturday night at Northeast Dragway.

“The funny thing is, is that I don’t even own the motor in this car,” Moreland said. “I built it a few years ago for another guy and he ended up wrecking the car. The motor was sold to another person who put it in another car, and that one was also wrecked. I have it on loan from its current owner who is not interested in selling it.”

With the track record of previous owners, Moreland agreed that keeping the motor under a “borrowed status” may be the safest option.

Moreland was paired with Michael Crumpler of Elm City in the final. Crumpler fouled with a red light start and Moreland went on to run dead on his 4.94 dial for the win. Crumpler won the most consecutive rounds of the night and took over the points lead, however

Tom Worthington of Rocky Mount dominated the Modified class and secured his first win of the year.

“It was my lucky dial in,” Worthington said. “I dialed in 7.77 all day and I won every round.”

Luck or skill, Worthington defeated Greg Jernigan in the final round by having the best reaction time off the line and running 7.80 on his 7.77 dial.

Paul Cohen of Camden collected his first win of the year in the Street class on a day that almost didn’t happen.

“I wasn’t even going to come today because my tow vehicle broke down,” said Cohen. “I called Nathan (Lilley) and told him why I wouldn’t be there and he said that he had a trailer and he would come get me, so I owe this one to him”.

In the final, Cohen went against Charles Fambrough of Elizabeth City, who, after having the best reaction time off the line, broke out on top end, giving Cohen the win.

Big Kev Richardson made an impressive comeback in the Pro Bike class after suffering a blown motor on his Rolling Tones Suzuki in the first time run. Richardson, who always comes prepared with a back-up, quickly switched bikes and went on to win every round including the final, collecting valuable points along the way.

Richardson went head-to-head with Delton Dove in the final. Dove fouled with a red light start. Richardson went on to run 6.13 on his 6.11 dial.

Hannah Winslow of Edenton took another big bite of victory pie in the Junior Dragster class by scoring first place wins two weeks in a row.

Winslow won all points-bearing rounds, including the final against David Wayne Light of Wanchese, where the margin of victory was just .007 for the closest race of the night.

Heads-up, side-by-side racing action headlines next Saturday as 4.90, 5.90 and 10.5 classes take to the line as well as regular bracket classes. Summer gate times will be in effect with gates opening at 3 p.m., time runs beginning at 5, followed by eliminations around 7 p.m.

Friday night Test and Tune will be held from 7 to 10 p.m.
