“Racers Duke It Out for Championship”
Racers are still battling it out for the 2013 Track Championship at Northeast Dragway.
David Light the 2012 Jr. Dragster Track Champion from Wanchese, NC went into competition on Saturday with a one round lead over Julie Ainsley of Chesapeake, Va when the competition heated up. When Light went -.001 red in his first round he would have to wait to see what his strongest point’s competitor would do against her opponent. As Ainsley took out her first competitor she would take over the points lead. That would not stop Light. Although he was no longer in the event for championship points he would buy himself back into the competition in hopes of still winning the nights event. As Ainsley went round after round collecting valuable points, Light too would find himself back in the competition as he knocked of driver after driver. As both drivers went round after round they would find themselves meeting each other in the finals. This would be Light’s chance to stop Ainsley from collecting another round of points. As the lights came down, both drivers would get a clean start of the line, but at the finish line Light would be victorious. Light and Ainsley have been competing in the Jr Dragster class for several years and have competed against each other multiple times. Light asked Ainsley to share the winner circle photo with him. It’s serious business when we meet at the tree, but it’s always friendly competition. Both drivers had a little fun with each other as both drivers put up their fist with a laugh … Light said “this fight isn’t over yet.”
Joel Moreland of Edenton took his dragster to the winner circle for his first win in the TOP Eliminator class, beating out Jesse Lockhart who went red.
Robert Harris, also of Edenton took his 1988 Thunderbird to the winner circle when he beat former MOD Points Champion Greg Haynes.
Delton Dove took home honors with his win in PRO BIKE and Darnell Tillett earned the first place trophy in the street class.
