Double Entry
Pays Off for Drag Race
By Carla Winslow
After nearly
six weeks of bad weather Northeast Dragway opened the gates for a two day point’s
event. Owner Curtis Trueblood made the decision to run a full weekend giving
the racers a chance to make up some of the points races needed to complete a
full point’s season. “With seven points races scheduled in order to qualify
racers for the team finals in October I made the decision to run both Saturday
and Sunday. With other events planned for the season I had to take advantage of
the open schedule, said Trueblood.”
On Saturday
Michael Coward of Vanceboro, NC entered both his Camaro and his dragster into
the TOP ET Class. Going rounds all night, Coward entered the final round with
both vehicles. Having both vehicles in the finals was a first for Coward and an
honor at that. “I never thought I would actually be in the winner’s circle with
both my cars. It was a busy day running back and forth, but I would have to say
it was worth every minute. Other winners on Saturday night included 5.90 Index
winner Caden Trueblood, Modified Class winner Danny Custer, Street Class winner
Hunter Mason, and Jr Dragster winner Justin Blythe.
On Sunday Caden
Trueblood returned to the winners circle once again, this time as the TOP ET
winner. From footbraking on Saturday to running the box on Sunday, Trueblood
showed his talent as a third generation driver. After the 5.90 Index race was
canceled, Trueblood’s grandfather encouraged him to try out the transbrake in
the TOP ET class. Trueblood took the win over Mike Day in the finals, when Mike
Day turned the red light handing over the win to Trueblood. Other winners
included Hunter Mason with his second win of the weekend in the Street Class,
Modified winner, Eric Whitehurst who earned points the entire day. Sierra Eure
was determined to make it to the winners circle after finishing as the
runner-up on Saturday. Eure went to the Jr Dragster finals with Hayle Harrell
where she took the advantage on the tree over Harrell and ran dead on her dial
in for the win.
