Haynes Wins 1st Annual Speed Oasis Footbreak 5K Nationals
On Saturday May 4th no delay boxes or transbrakes would be allowed at Northeast Dragway, it would all be left on the driver and their quick foot action as the lights come down on the tree.
Greg Haynes of Suffolk, Va. proved just how quick he could react to the light when he left the line with a reaction time of .0004 in the semifinal round. Such a quick reaction time and superior driving skills secured him a spot in the main event. Hayes, the 2012 Modified Class Points Champion has been plagued with multiple issues so far this season . Winning today’s days event would be an overdue victory.
Haynes faced Mike Agate of Franklin, VA, in the final round. Haynes who prefers to run the left lane lost lane choice and was forced to run in the right lane. “My car seems to pull towards the guard rail in the right lane and so I tend to run the left lane”, Haynes said. “I really did not know what would happen over there.” Haynes was slower off the tree but Agate would breakout and give the win to Haynes.
Speed Oasis the sponsor for the event is also a sponsor of the 1979 Chevy Malibu owned by Haynes. “It was a special win for us both. I was more than excited to take them and my car to the winner circle.”
The 5.90 and 6.90 Index Classes will be returning to Northeast next weekend along with regular ET Bracket racing next week. Go to www.northeastdragway.net for more information.
